Berbere

Location: Santa Monica

Berbere is a plant based Ethiopian restaurant located in Santa Monica that is known for its unique flavorful combinations. The menu artfully crafts Ethiopian influences on classic dishes like tacos and sliders. Known for its organic and innovative approach to cooking novel flavors, this is the spot to check out for your next culinary adventure. Pets are welcome!

Planta Cocina

Location: Marina Del Rey, Brentwood

If you’re looking for a more upscale vegan restaurant, Planta’s contemporary and stylistic space on the Marina waterfront is a must try. Latin inspired cuisine accompanied by Asian influences join to seamlessly create wonderful plant-based delicacies. I highly recommend trying the unagi eggplant nigiri or the truffle mushroom udon. Weekly deals include Mondays Unlimited Maki Rolls, Half Priced Wine on Wednesday’s, and Bottomless Mimosas and Sake Sangria on Weekends.

Crossroads

Location: West Hollywood, Calabasas

Crossroads is a prime plant based classic in the West Hollywood neighborhood. Taking on a sophisticated and classy ambiance, this restaurant was also the first vegan spot in the city to feature a full bar with a curated cocktail program. They even offer a special nut free menu. I recommend trying their irresistible eggplant short rib or artichoke oysters, a bite you’ll thank me for.

Nic’s on Beverly

Location: Beverly Grove

With a beautifully decorated interior and an outdoor patio draped in greens and string lights, Nic’s on Beverly checks all your aesthetic and culinary boxes. Indulge in Californian-inspired dishes elevated with a twist on flavors ranging from the black sheep lamb bolognese to the truffle tahini falafel burger. Treat yourself to one of the cocktail masterpieces; I recommend the silky Matcha Made in Heaven or the Purple Reign known for its flavorful infusions. Bottomless mimosas are also offered on weekends.

Shojin

Location: Culver City, Little Tokyo

You are in for an absolute treat at Shojin! This plant based and gluten free Japanese restaurant features amazing specialties including omakase, miso and shoyu ramens, and of course, signature rolls and nigiri. The culinary approach to these dishes are successful in bringing a one of a kind flavor profile. The softly illuminated interior lined with contemporary art, makes it an ideal setting for a cozy evening. There is also outdoor dining available on their beautiful patio.

De Buena Planta

Location: Silverlake 

De Buena Planta is a vegan’s paradise for a fun time and delicious shareable plates. Step into the vast space adorned with a lively tiki bar, lush greenery and plants, and a vibrant boho atmosphere. The food menu has less options but nonetheless offers mouthwatering creations. Highly recommend the oaxacan grilled cabbage or harissa topped al pastor tacos. They host an awesome Happy Hour with ½ off all drinks Wed-Fri 4-6pm, Trivia Thursday 8-10pm, and Live Music Fridays 7-10pm.

Julie Goes Green

One of the best vegan gems on the west side is an Italian delight known as Julie Goes Green. The menu features Italian classics with sustainably sourced ingredients, delivering a flavorful plant based fare. The California Sunshine Pizza and Chicken Marsala Pasta are just some of the delicious creations offered. Whether you're in the mood for a laid-back dining experience or a cozy takeout treat, this is the ultimate spot for casual bites and comfort meals.

Cafe Gratitude

Welcome to Cafe Gratitude, a vegan hotspot and local favorite. This ethically inspired plant based fare is committed to health, sustainability, and the wellbeing of the community. Known for its usual crowd of lively and social buzz, this is a great meetup spot to catch up with some friends. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with eccentric menu options such as pumpkin spice brioche french toast and my personal favorite, the roasted butternut radicchio bruschetta. Check out the Happy Hour Weekdays 4-7pm!

Au Lac

Location: DTLA

Au Lac is a Vietnamese inspired plant based restaurant of over 25 years. This classic spot showcases the vibrant flavors of Vietnam in dishes ranging from hearty noodle soups to flavorful sautées and grilled specialties, all prepared with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Using influences from other cuisines, you can also expect various diverse delicacies such as the Ravioli Rosa made with sun-dried tomato and macadamia cream sauce or the Ito Burrito which comes with a special dehydrated green pea tortilla. Definitely worth a try!
